Dental Implants replace teeth that have been lost due to trauma or dental disease. They look and feel like natural teeth. They can be used to securely support crowns in place, or they can be used to anchor dentures in position.

At Cirencester Dental and Aesthetics we can place implants to provide a long-lasting replacement to your missing teeth.

Why would I need a Dental Implant?

  • They are secure and strong, giving you confidence that you expect from your own teeth
  • No awkward or bulky feeling in your mouth from a removable denture
  • There is no need to drill into healthy teeth for support as with bridges
  • The look and feel of an implant is closer to your natural tooth than other replacements
  • Prevent further bone loss, which is a risk when natural teeth are absent

Depending on your aesthetic goals and personal expectations, we may recommend dental implants to restore your missing teeth. To confirm that you are a good candidate for implants, the bone mass and structure of your jaw will be examined carefully beforehand.

What is a Dental Implant?

A Dental Implant is a small titanium screw placed into the jawbone. Titanium is the preferred material because it can integrate (fuse) completely with the bone tissue in your jaw. A Dental Implant acts as a strong foundation and can be used to support a single crown or to secure a denture.

How are Dental Implants placed?

You will have a full assessment to check that the jawbone is suitable for placing an implant. After numbing the treatment area using a local anaesthetic, your dentist will carefully implant the titanium screw into your bone. It can then take up to six months for a dental implant to properly fuse with the surrounding bone tissue. We may fit you with a temporary bridge or denture until the healing process is complete. We take x-rays to check the bone healing, and once happy with the result we will then work with our dental technicians to create the restoration to secure on top of the implant.

How do I look after my Dental Implant?

Excellent oral hygiene and regular dental hygiene visits will keep your implant in good shape for many years.  You should brush and floss as you would with your natural teeth; your dentist and hygienist will show you special techniques if necessary.  If your implant is used to securely hold a denture in place, we will check the fit so that it stays comfortable.
